We played our second round of golf in Scottsdale today. We had a nice round at the Raven course, with a great price courtesy of the Brothers Eichstaedt. It was a fine course but not in the ballpark with the TPC Stadium where we played on Thursday. That course has really grown up since I played it a number of years (at least 10) ago. The rough is seriously difficult. They have a nice plaque in the desert on #13 where Tiger got the crowd to move a little loose impediment for him a few years back. The boulder is still there but has been anchored more firmly. I probably won't put KOTH up until tomorrow afternoon...we are missing several picks. CARLOS had an awful round today...figured out the short chipping _finally) but then started flaring irons to the right badly. Couldn't figure it out, ready to throw clubs in lake...when suddenly, on the 15th hole, CARLOS began to wonder about one little thing, While waiting for the four fatmen to clear up ahead, CARLOS took and old ball and drilled a four iron long and straight off into a nearby lake. Aha! Problem fixed. CARLOS then hit a perfect drive, a NICE IRON onto the dance floor, and lipped out a long sweeping birdie putt for a kick in par. Next hole on in regulation (ANOTHER fine chip to the green) putt for birdie. The last hole, par five over the agua, CARLOS hit a 256 yard three wood onto the dance floor in two and two putted for another birdie. I can HARDLY WAIT TO PLAY AGAIN! Maybe....maybe I can achieve my goal next round!!!!!!!!!!!! CARLOS also took a break to a nearby cabana after the 15th hole with the nubile young cart girl. That may have helped also! I played a little real golf this past weekend down at the beach. A nice course called North Shore near Topsail island. I don't go to that particular beach very often, but we had near perfect weather and managed to play 36 holes at North Shore on Friday and 18 at another course called Bear Trail on Saturday. I was really beat after playing 36, something I haven't done in a long time. I hit the ball well, but the greens were way faster than I'm used to and I shot 84 on the first 18 of the day. I managed to shoot 80 on the next 18 on that same course with a much better back nine in the afternoon round. Putting was definitely my issue and I actually brought two different putters to try and solve it. That didn't work too well. I hit the driver great and actually pitched and chipped quite well. I just couldn't make short putts. Bear Trail on Saturday was a much longer course and I hit the driver as good as I can hit it. They had very fast greens as well, but I finally figured those out and managed a 78 with a nice 37 on the back nine that could have been one or two under. I had one very strange hole on a Par-3. I cold shanked a ball like I've about never seen. This thing might have killed somebody standing to my right. I never did it again although the fear was there. CDM person never ceases to amaze me with how VERY SLOW they are in providing awards. Even when the only thing being "awarded" is "free" stuff (to both them and us). In this case, I received notification today (some 40 days AFTER the close of the T2 season...yes, that IS a MONTH AND A HALF already) that the FANPOINTS won in T2 would be placed into my account....wait for it...wait for it..."in the next two to four weeks..."? WTF is up with THAT? Four more weeks = 28 days + 40 days = 68 days (about two and a half months) before they award the "FREE" fanpoints? C'Mon! Her team mate won state with a 75 and is going to play for Kansas State next year. Another teamamte shot 76. Bella was at the turn with a 40 after 3 putting twice and not being able to get up and down for bird on a par 5. Then she went chunk for a bodey and 3 consecutive 3 putts for all bogeys then snuck a par in there on a difficult par three then a triple when she was laying in the fairway 120 yards out then a bogey from the fairway and then a double on last par 5 hitting into a hazard. High school girls golf is more a pitch and putt tournament where college is big girls golf. There are girls who have been beating her on tracks of 5000 but probably can't keep up with her when it gets stretched to 6000. She still shoots roughly the same scores. Bella's team won State in a landslide. Won by 69 strokes and only one girl of the top 4 on their team shot their personal best on the course. Bella shot 88 and tied for 7th and then won in a playoff with a par on the first hole. She did go 6 over the last 3 holes and missed 3rd by two strokes. Her achilles heel is her short game. After watching the Presidents Cup I still haven't seen any part of Kim's game I like. I think he overswings on most shots to mask a lack of control. Tiger has power to burn and yet he uses all kinds of knock-down, punch, or off-speed shots to get the ball to the hole. Kim could also use some bunker tips from Els on how to hit a 20 foot shot without 100mph swingspeed. I would play Kim at Hilton Head any day of the week, and I'm not kidding. My idea is to get away from having to mix players from any other series at all. Who wants to have to check the field on two different series every week and in the case of the Champions Tour ave only one days play compared to two for the Regular Tour at Bench Switch Time. The Euro Tour with a five hour time difference would futher complicate making changes. And then there is Euro to dollar conversion. Those of use that field multiple teams certainly have enough to do to not want to add that.I think the game we play now without Seniors and without overlap would be an improvement and a similar Seniors only game could bring in extra $$$ for CDM. They certainly could consider a Euro Game also & see how much interest there would be, heck they could likely make some $$$ with an LPGA Game. 10/11 17:00:37 t11 King Pins

Here's a subject I'd like to run past you guys and I'd also wlcome a comment from CDM MAN... Most everyone here dislikes the Tour1 & Tour2 Overlap.I understand it creates extra revenue for CDM. At the same time, I don't know of anyone who likes having to carry 3 Seniors in their lineup, especially when there are so many weeks where they don't play... What I'm promoting is a Tour Trade league of all Regular Tour Players and a separate Tour Trade Champions Tour League with the same format with all 24 players on the roster being Champions Tour Players. I usually hit between 220 and 250. Had about a 15-20 mile per hour wind behind it, and I just hammered it. My new technique has been focusing on the clubface on both takeaway and follow through and it has really helped my iron game and woods. Very nice Bill. I have some good news as well. On teh 8th hole of a round yesterday, everything FINALLY clicked and I played one of the better rounds in my life. Hit a drive 335 yards and almost every green in regulation. The putting started off shaky though and I missed a few shorts ones (usually I put pretty well). It's a public course and is only charging $35 during October, when it is cart paths only and just back from reseeding. TO: Mr. Bill. I understand your amazement at golf rates in Phoenix area. In 2006, I encountered the same problem when my daughter got married in Scottsdale. I couldn't believe that golf rates weren't more competitive with so many courses avaialble. For what it's worth, I played the ASU-Karsten course which was reasonable but very ordinary and not in great shape. I would recommend the Rancho Manana Golf Club (www.ranchomanana.com)in Cave Creek. It is quite short (only about 6000 yards) but well-manicured and interesting, particularly with the elevation changes which is unusual for the area. And of course rates are reasonable. I play to an 8 or 9 handicap and found it very challenging. Mr. Bill - There is a nice course there called "The Raven" that has something like a $199.00 morning rate but it is part of the IRI-owned courses. The Eichstedt's may be able to get you onto it for $99 in the morning. That is what my club affiliation was able to get for me when I played it in 2008. Played golf today. Slammed every green in regulation and actually hit my irons well, especially the 4-5-6. The shot killing me now is that short chip to the green 25 yards and in. Keep chunking em over the green. I need to use LUNCH's tip and get a laundry basket out in the backyard. I drove the side of the green on a par four, maybe fifteen feet from the cup but up a steep bank. Skulled it about 25 feet past the hole, then had a downhill putt which stopped RIGHT at the top of the hill. You can guess the rest. I pulled a major fugg up this morning. I checked lineups last night, but noticed the early tee times for today, so waited until this morning to make moves. If folks want to follow the race for the $10K, here is a review of the team differences and buy decisions. I ignored player differences if they were not in contention. In first place, Smokin bought Dufner to block Skarpion (in second) who had him but was out of buys. Smokin has Harrington and Skarpion is playing Furyk. In third Anarchy in the UK used his buy on Els, which the top two do not own. In fourth, Eagle Quest bought Harrington, which 1 and 3 own but has the only Marino in the top 4. Revenge of Carlos in fifth, benched Tiger and started Perry. He is the only team in the top 10 with Perry and without Woods. He is playing Furyk but doesn’t have Harrington. He had no buys left. The Buick in sixth used his buy on Els and seems to be blocked by players in front from shooting the moon unless he gets a miracle finish from Na and Verplank. Cabana in 7th used his buy on Kelly, which no one owns in front. He doesn’t have Harrington. Take the Helm in 8th used his buy on O’hair, which 5 guys in front already own. He is starting Furyk and Dufner. His best finish may be third if Dufner hits the jackpot. Armed and Dangerous had no buys. He is void in Harrington but owns Marino –which only Eagle quest in front is playing. Thunder in 10th used his buy on Els, which two in front have. If everything went his way, he could peak at third. Well Bella maybe turning the corner. She was supposed to play MOnday but got rained out. Yesterday her team played in Lawerence. She shot herself a 79 with 4 three putts, and one water ball because the layup was 120 yard shot. SHe had never seen the course before and it played 4900 yards so it was short. Back nine was just tricked up. She ended up getting 9th at the tournament and her 4th on her team as they shot 302. I was told that is a school record. They had made a goal this year to break 320. Had a great time in Vegas only golfed one day played Las Vegas Golf Club established in 1920 a real wide open easy going course with lots of big trees. The greens were very wet early hard to judge the speeds. but the back nine they played real nice. Guys thanks for the golf inputs. Gave us some ideas which way to go. Bella got rained out yesterday which sucks. She had played 2 holes sitting Even with a bird and a bogey and was in the middle of the fairway when they blew the horn. She actually had 2 great appraoch shots. I asked her on Sunday to go out and hoiit balls but only wedges. Well she hit her 4 wedges and the 9 plus 8. Looks like that helped as well. I got a name of a swing coach that the best high school golfer in Kansas uses. Guy charges $75 a lesson but I think I am going to have to look into that. 09/21 23:08:49 t16 Wiz
It was great to get a chance to play a round of golf with Mr Bill and we had a really nice dinner with Bill & Alice in Palm Desert. It was also the first time I was out there at this time of the year and got to find out what it's like to play in temps between 103 & 107. I can say that back east a day in the 90's with humidity in the 90's is tougher to deal with. Thanks Bunka. Yeah, it took me a long time to even get someone's attention. I've been doing this camping and fishing trip for ten years with a group of guys and on the tenth anniversary I wrote a story about it to sort of recap all our adventures. All the guys that go wanted me to send it off and see if a magazine or newspaper would run it. I finally got NC Sportsman interested and it turned out pretty good even though they edited hell out of the piece. It's actually out in print right now. I saw it at Lowe's Foods yesterday. KP- As everyone knows, I am the MASTER of bad chipping. She is probably not keeping the butt of the club pointing at her belt buckle on the takeaway. If she does that, and takes the club back and thru about the same distance, and does a nice follow through, she will be OK. Have her try that at the range for a few balls. Do like what Wiz told me, take five practice swings with no ball, then try it with the ball. It also sounds like she isn't bringing the club back lo and slo on the takeaway of she is taking four to get down near the green. Either that or just not turning the shoulders Try it, lo and slo, back and forth the same distance, and put the weight on the front foot like Panther said and hit down on the ball. One thing I noticed when I was having the same problem- when Id walk out on the range and hit back a few extra balls after finishing a basket, I suddenly realized I was walking up to these balls, leaning over and swatting them, and they were all going right back to my bag....right where I would want a chip to go to a target!
